Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players around the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
