Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While betting on online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
