Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
